Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Talofa Lava!
Vaiaso o le Gagana Sāmoa - Samoa Language Week is being held from Sunday 26 May – Saturday 1 June 2019.
The theme for this year is: ‘Lalaga le si’osi’omaga mo se lumana’i manuia’ - ‘Weave an environment for a better future’.
Thank you so much for all your support last week with our International Food Fair . We were so lucky with the weather and the quality of food was equal to that of any high end restaurant. Thank you to all families who cooked, baked and spent money. All contributions were very much appreciated. We raised just under $3000.00 which was a super grand effort.
Special welcome to Audrey who has joined the students in Room 7 with Mr Grevatt we hope you enjoy your time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
A malu i fale, e malu i fafo – Respect yourself and others will.
Arohanui

Strike Notice on Wednesday (29th May)
Sacred Heart Cathedral School will be closed on
Wednesday, 29th May due to the strike.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
You may have heard in the media that NZEI members (primary teachers) and PPTA members (secondary teachers) across New Zealand have both voted in favour of taking joint strike action on Wednesday, 29th May.
The Board has considered whether an education service can be provided on 29th May - but given the absence of the Principal and teaching staff we have concluded that we cannot provide a teaching service during that period. As a result, the School will be closed that day and no school related services (including after school care) will be provided and no staff will be at School on that day.
I know this will be inconvenient for many parents and hopefully a resolution to the underlying issues will be found that the Government, NZEI and PPTA can accommodate.
If you have any questions relating to this decision, please contact me.
Kind Regards,
Suzanne Adair
Board Chair

Staff Professional Development
This week the staff had a session with Katrina from Core Education. Learning was around computational thinking.
There was lots of debugging going on in order for teachers to read each others codes.

A stunning Wellington evening trying different food from around the world. Check out our photo gallery.

Our children participated in an exciting day of learning at the Home of Compassion. Special thanks to Jane Regan, Father James, Deirdre Hanlon, student liturgy leaders, staff and students who combined made 2019 Catholic Schools Day a very special day.

We look forward to you joining us in Room 10 on Wednesday 5 June for this event. A light meal will be provided. Please let Cathy know if you are able to attend with an indication of numbers for catering purposes, thank you. Cathy's email: cathy@sacred-heart.school.nz
31 May Mufti Day to celebrate Samoan Language week

Last Day of term is a mufti day for Caritas
Mufti Mania is the last day of term 2 and both Caritas and the New Zealand Catholic Primary Principals' Association (NZCCPA) are excited about helping our Pacific brothers and sisters in Bougainville at Doputz Primary School. On the last day of term two (Friday July 5th) we'll celebrate the end of term in style by helping the school get new water tanks, toilets, school resources and classroom repairs. Please bring a gold coin so we can give it to Caritas.
