Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Kia ora koutou.
Blessings to you all and I hope all our Mums, Grandmothers, Aunties and significant women in our lives all had a wonderful Mother's Day. Our students certainly enjoyed sharing how wonderful their Mum is in our Liturgy yesterday.
Welcome to Camelia who started in Room 1 on Monday. Camelia you are going to have a wonderful time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and will make lifelong friends.
Please make sure you have after school care arrangements in place for your child every day.
Our school has an After School Care facility. Please use this service if you require care after school. Please note there is no supervision available for those children who are not attending After School Care. Please note this is a care and protection issue.
We had such a fantastic Week 1 of Term 2-2022. Classrooms are humming. Normality is returning. Because our COVID numbers are still relatively low our Staff are all wearing masks. We still have active COVID-19 cases in our school community.

Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015 - It is so Important Our Children Understand this Law
In 2015 the New Zealand Government passed the Harmful Digital Communications Act (This is a cyber bullying law).
Digital communication may be deemed harmful if it is:
- directed at an individual
- makes a person emotionally distressed
- it has or could seriously breach one or more of the 10 communication principles of the Act.
We still have active COVID-19 cases in our school community.
Adults who come into school, please wear a facemask.
Staff will continue to wear face masks as an extra layer of protection.
Students in Rooms 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,and 10 are to wear facemasks when indoors.
Please note, we wipe communal areas on a regular basis and students hand sanitize on entry into school.
We have monitors placed throughout the school to assess CO-2 levels. We are keeping our classrooms well ventilated.
Students who are not feeling well must stay at home.
Caution Over the Flu Season is Very Important in 2022
As noted on the Ministry of Health website:
- We've had very little influenza circulating in our communities since the pandemic began. This means our community immunity is lower than usual.
- This winter there is the very real possibility of having flu and COVID-19 within a short space of time – this can lead to very serious illness.
- If you do catch flu, it’s important that you stay away from work or school while you’re unwell. Look after yourself and your family – rest and fluids are especially important.
- The symptoms of influenza can be the same or similar to the symptoms of COVID-19.
- If you’re sick, stay home. Call your health provider or Healthline and follow their advice. They may advise you to have a COVID-19 test, and self-isolate while you wait for the results.
- It’s also important to seek medical advice early if you are concerned, and especially if there are any danger signs, even if you have been seen before. Other serious conditions can also look like the flu, including meningococcal disease.
Pleae find attached our liturgy that we shared with Mums, Grandmas, and Aunties on Tuesday.
After our visit from Kea Kids News last week ,Waitī (Room 6) created news reports on their Mothers for Mother's Day. Here is Sadie sharing about her wonderful Mum.
Last Wednesday, two Sacred Heart basketball teams competed in a Year 7/8 competition at the ASB centre. The Thunder team played Kahurangi school and won 38-6. The player of the match was Zymone (Rm 9). The Lightning team played Clyde Quay (winners from last year) and lost 50-19. The player of the match was Zach M. The players all had lots of fun and we are very grateful to parents, supporters and our two coaches - Matt Brennan and Nofoa Tupai. The teams are still playing grading games and this week they play each other, so go Sacred Heart!

We are once again looking for tutor readers to come into the school and listen to children read - grandparents, parents or other family members are welcome. For further details, please see the flyer below.
