Good afternoon.
This afternoon we met with the Ministry of Education and Police to discuss the situation down at Parliament.
We will continue to work collaboratively with the Ministry of Education and Police to assess the current protest situation and the impact this is having on ākonga and staff safety and wellbeing.
We have been advised that:
- There will be an increase in visible Police patrols around the school and train station especially when ākonga are travelling to and from school to ensure the safety of all ākonga and staff.
- Māori wardens are being based around the station to minimise any disruptive or anti-social behaviour.
- Police have established night patrols that include monitoring our school grounds to ensure no unwelcome guests and police have been given the delegations to trespass on our behalf.
- Advice remains to avoid Molesworth Street.
We have received assurances that emergency vehicles are still able to access our site. As you can appreciate this is an evolving situation and we will constantly reassess and review our response and keep you up to date.
The Board has also met this afternoon and has come up with the following guidelines for our school.
If your child comes to school by train/bus you may want to consider alternative ways to get to and from school.
If your child will be coming to school on train/bus we have a new safe meeting spot in the morning.
It will be at Number 1 Platform inside the railway station. Staff/school volunteers will be there from 7.30 AM until 8.30 AM to walk your child to school (if you come into the station and are able to help out in the mornings please see Bernadette at the station).
There is now very limited parking on Hill Street. We encourage you to use Hawkestone Street and St Mary's College has very kindly offered the use of their netball courts accessed off Hawkestone Street for drop off and pick-ups (up the driveway by the gym).
We will be limiting access to the school throughout the day. If your child is late or you need to come to school during the day please use the gate by the office.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Please contact me if you have any queries.
Take care and keep safe.
