Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregiver,
Kia ora koutou katoa!
Thank you for all your support with our Christmas Hamper Raffle. Keep returning raffle tickets and money to school. We also have additional tickets available at the office if you would like these.
From 15 November, it is a legal requirement for every adult visiting a school to have had at least one vaccine shot. If you want to continue to be a volunteer helper, you will need to present your vaccine proof into the office. We will enter your details into our vaccine database and when you visit we will issue you with an ID to wear when you are at school or on the trip (Sacred Heart Cathedral School volunteer). Please also note that you are also required to wear a face covering when visiting school.
Staffing - Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs Geraghty as she returns to hospital for another procedure. Mr Nic Solia will be in Room 8 for two weeks while Mrs Geraghty recovers at home.
Please also keep Kate Woodbury and her family in your prayers. Kate's Dad is currently in hospital and the family are waiting for him to be transferred to Mary Potter Hospice.
Congratulations to Mya - our Supervisor from After School Care who was the recipient of a Prime Ministers Award Vocational Scholarship. Well done Mya! We look forward to hearing about your future endeavours.
Our Year 8s enjoyed a Pizza Lunch together on Tuesday as we are unable to hold our Year 8 dinner.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

News from the Sacred Heart Cathedral School Board
Kia ora koutou.
As we head towards the end of term 4, there are a couple of updates from the board. I will be in touch again towards the end of the year as we celebrate our staff, student and families who are leaving Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
Sacred Heart Cathedral School complying with Public Health Order for Education
The health and safety of staff and students is a top priority for the board of Sacred Heart Cathedral School. As our tamariki are mostly under 12 year olds and are not able to access the vaccination at this time, we need to protect them as best as we can at Sacred Heart. As you will know from Bernadette’s updates, under the Public Health Order for Education, as of November 15th every adult worker or volunteer that comes onto the school site must be vaccinated. Thank you to all our teachers and staff for their support and understanding with this request. Thank you also to our parent volunteers who have been really cooperative in updating their vaccination status with the school office. Please see the main newsletter for details of how you can update your vaccination status with school.
New Board Member
At our last meeting on 27 October, we welcomed Amanda Gray to the board as a proprietor’s appointee. You may know Amanda as Mum of Otis in Room 2. We are very grateful that Amanda put her name forward to be on the board and her generosity in sharing her skills with the board and school.
A Proprietor appointee represents the Archbishop of Wellington to ensure the school’s commitment to Catholic education and to maintain and enhance the Catholic Character of the school. The proprietor’s appointees have recently conducted their annual review and submitted this to Cardinal John.
Board Meeting
At our recent board meetings we discussed:
- Junior achievement data – comprehensive reporting for the board to review with excellent results and which identified next steps to support the movement of target groups;
- Our draft budget for 2022;
- A review of our progress against our Strategic Plan for 2021-2023 (and developing our 2022 annuals goals); and
- The Essential Property Maintenance grant that all integrated schools are eligible to apply for. We are working with the archdioceses to confirm criteria for the grant and have identified maintenance tasks that the grant could be put towards. Further to come on this in 2022.
Our final board meeting for the year is on 1 December, when we will confirm the 2022 budget and be presented with the overall data goals for target groups for 2022.
Donations
Thank you very much to everyone who has paid their donations to the school. Although donations are not compulsory, they enable our school to provide high quality programmes of learning and we rely on these funds to enhance the life of the school through supporting cultural activities, sports, employing additional staff to supplement learning support, and provide extra teachers. The general school donation will be used for:
- ICT classroom equipment (Chrome books and iPads);
- New adaptive furniture that supports a vibrant and flexible learning environment;
- Resources to support health and PE programmes;
- Resources to support literacy, mathematics and science learning;
- Resources to support the external environment.
Your support is greatly appreciated by us. The donations (both general and specific) qualify for a rebate of 33%. If you would like further information on this and how to claim, please click on the link below:

Chair of the Board / Presiding Member
Last week, Room 6 learnt about the history behind Guy Fawkes. They then complete a Guy Fawkes piece of art.
Our staff have been so impressed with the protocols at the Aquatic Centre. A great deal of thought has gone into all the logistics to keep our children safe at the pool.

Reid, Room 5, has lost his named black waterproof Macpack jacket. It has his telephone number written on the inside bottom part of the jacket. If found, please return it to Reid in Room 5. Thank you.
Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon
The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon will be held at Kilbirnie Park on 27 March 2022.
It is designed for Kiwi kids aged 7-15 years to help them stay active and healthy through a programme of participation. Participants get to swim, cycle, and run their way around age appropriate courses, either as an individual or as part of a team of two.
This is always a popular event for Sacred Heart children and once again in 2022 we have registered a school group. By registering as a school we go in the draw to win prizes for our school. If you are planning on registering your child for the 2022 TRYathlon, please register via our school group link using my details as the school coordinator (Suzanne Adair, suzanneadair@hotmail.com):
