Dear Parents/Caregivers,
A warm welcome to Andre and Kellan (Room 1) and Jorja (Room 6) who started at our school at the beginning of Term 2 and to Tiara (Room 1) who started on Monday 6 May.
I have a lot of donated second hand uniform. This is currently in the After School Care Room please help yourself to any items. There are a couple of warm black winter jackets down there as well.
Thank you for all our wonderful Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunties and friends who were able to join us for our Mother's Day Liturgy. This was a very special occasion for all. Thank you also to Geoff and Steve who co-ordinated the afternoon tea for our guests.

Next week we have our school cross country and swimming sports - training has been going well and we look forward to seeing all of our students giving their very best.

Principal, Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Sacred Heart International Food Fair, 23 May 2019
In only a few weeks, Sacred Heart will be holding the eagerly-awaited Food Fair. This will be on Thursday, 23 May from 4.30pm – 6.30pm. Funds raised from this event go towards our final contribution for the turf on the school’s new playground.
We need you!
To make this fair a success this is our final call-out to all foodies who are a dab hand in cooking, particularly something from your country of origin. At this point we are planning on Asian fusion, Pasifika, Indiana and kiwi fare and are open to offers for other nationality dishes. We will also have a baking stall and will be offering tea, coffee and cake. If you feel you can help in some way, please contact (by 14 May):
Asian Fusion food - Pamela Pareja, pamela.p.pareja@gmail.com Tel. 022 012 2379
Pasifika – Trudy L, trudyml18@gmail.com Tel. 021 037 8290
New Zealand – Catherine McLeavey, catherinemcleavey1@gmail.com, Tel 021 113 3113
Baking and any offers of help – Nicola Nation, nicola@trustproperties.co.nz, Tel 027 471 0413
We will also need help with set up and packing down the Food Fair, and we need a marketing whiz to help with promoting the event. If you are able to help with any of these things, please register with Nicola Nation.
Board of Trustees elections are coming up. Have you considered putting yourself forward as a parent representative on our school Board of Trustees? A flyer was sent home this afternoon with your child, with information about this - if you did not receive a copy of this flyer, please contact Cathy email: cathy@sacred-heart.school.nz and she will give your child another copy. You can also find out what is involved with 'Becoming a trustee' by:
Nomination forms have been posted out to all eligible voters. If for some reason you have not received a nomination form, please let Cathy know 04 4724047. This is also a good time to update physical addresses if you have moved house and forgotten to give your new address to Cathy.
Nominations are invited for the election of 5 parent representatives to the board of trustees. You can nominate another person to stand as a candidate, or you can nominate yourself. Both parts of the form must be signed. Additional nomination forms can be obtained from the school office. Nominations close at noon on Friday 24 May and may be accompanied by a signed candidate statement and photograph.
The voting roll is available for inspection at the school office during normal school hours.
All children should be in full winter uniform from next week onwards. For the Junior and Middle syndicate girls, this is a pinafore, long sleeve white blouse, green jersey, school tie, either black tights or black knee high socks and black school shoes. Our school jacket can be either a plain black raincoat or black puffer jacket. Senior syndicate girls uniform differs by having a skirt rather than a pinafore, everything else is the same.
Boys winter uniform consists of long sleeve grey shirt, green jersey, school tie, grey wool shorts or trousers, regulation grey school socks with 2 green bands, black school shoes and black raincoat or puffer jacket.
Next week as a nation we acknowledge Bullying. At Sacred Heart Cathedral School we have zero tolerance for any sort of bullying. If your child is worried about any unkind behaviour we want to know about it straight away.
Bullying is harmful and is not a normal part of growing up. It is a power inbalance. Bullying is often not a one off incidnet it is repeated time and time again often in very subtle ways. Bullying can be physical , verbal, emotional or online. Bullying is an issue all schools face. At Sacred Heart Cathedral School we always aim to be consistent in our approach as a staff and deal with every bullying incident in a constructive way. Together with everyone working together we can all prevent bullying by providing a safe, positive learning environment for all at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
On Friday, 17 May 2019, our school will take part in Pink Shirt Day.
By celebrating Pink Shirt Day at our school, we want to help our students to feel safe, valued and respected. Aotearoa will be transformed into a sea of pink to share aroha and kindness, celebrate diversity and stop bullying!
Students are asked to come to school in mufti, wearing a pink shirt. We ask that a "can" donation is made, which the school will then give to the Soup Kitchen.
Some of our senior students made bread and two different soups: pumpkin and chicken noodle soup plus a yummy slice.
Junior science learning this term is around "pushing and pulling" and the theory and scientific concepts involved in this. Room 1 children participated in a 'Push-Pull' activity. It looks like lots of fun - check us out!

Amanda Room 10, has lost her drink bottle. It is a black metal one. If found please return it to Amanda in Room 10.
