Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Nga mihi nui.
SCHOOL RE-OPENS TOMORROW, THURSDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER AT THE USUAL TIME OF 8.40AM.
I hope your whānau are all doing well now that we are in Alert Level 2. From what I have seen, many have been navigating home learning with relative ease and confidence. We are all becoming more agile and adaptable as we come to terms with living through a pandemic.
As advised by the MOE (Ministry of Education) and MOH (Ministry of Heath), we will be aiming to minimise the number of adults who come onto our school site. We ask that you take the time to read and understand the information below so there is no confusion while we are in COVID delta alert level 2.
We ask all whānau who enter our school site to use the Government’s QR code tracing app – this is located at our school entrances. We have initiated our extra cleaning practices and procedures at COVID Level 2.
The staff are ready and the school is clean. We are all looking forward to welcoming our students back.
Everyone who comes onto our school site must sanitise their hands.
At Alert 2, it is drop off at the gate or if you need to come into school, please scan the QR code. Students in Rooms 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,and 10 will enter the main school through the office door.
Room 1 students, please enter through the After School Care Room.
Rooms 2 and 3, please enter the school through your cloak bay.
Students are asked to bring their own stationery, i.e pens and pencils.
Drinking Fountains are not in use during Alert Level 2. All students need to bring their own water bottles.
We are expecting all learners back on site for Alert Level 2. Please email office@sacred-heart.school.nz if your child will not be attending school for medical reasons.
After School Care will be running from Thursday, 9 September. Please email robynjones1952@gmail.com or office@sacred-heart.school if your child will be attending After School Care.
We understand that this is a stressful and uncertain situation – but we have all been here before and we know what to do to keep our community safe. Please remember to be kind to each other and let’s make this as stress free for our tamariki as possible.
Tonga Language Week 2021
Sunday, 5 September – Saturday, 11 September.
This year’s theme for Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e lea faka-Tonga - Tonga Language Week is Fakakoloa 'o Aotearoa 'aki 'a e Ako Lelei, which means enriching Aotearoa with holistic education.
The theme serves as a conversation starter on the importance of holistic education, diverse forms of learning and how Aotearoa can benefit from it.
The school photo date for 2021 has been re-scheduled to take place on Monday 27 September 2021.
This is a great activity for the children to do to get the mind prepared for learning.
Heavenly Father we ask you to send your spirit upon all those who are suffering at this time. We pray especially for those whose sufferings are due to war and injustice. We also pray for those of our community who are grieving. We ask that you put into our hearts a spirit of compassion and love. Help us to recognise those who are less fortunate than us and give us the strength to reach out to anyone we know who may be in need. Give us always the grace to recognise all the gifts you give us, that we may always be grateful for all that we have. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Please, please, if your child is sick, they must stay at home.
Special thanks for all your continued support and best wishes.

Other Events Cancelled due to shift in Alert Levels
Soup Kitchen Street Appeal – Friday, 17 September.
Thank you to those who offered to help with the Home of Compassion Soup Kitchen's Annual appeal. Unfortunately the street appeal has been cancelled this year due to the uncertainty around Covid Alert Levels. We are hoping to show our support for the soup kitchen in other ways this year.
Central Zone and Inter-Zone Swimming
Due to Covid restrictions, both of these events have been canceled.
Artsplash/Wearable Arts
Greetings to you all as you head back to your classrooms in level 2.
It is with great sadness that the decision has been made to cancel Artsplash Festival 2021.
With the increased restrictions in level 2 and the uncertain duration of level 2 it is not possible to proceed with this event.
The Ministry of Education has classified singing as a” HIGH RISK” activity so it seems unlikely that there will be much massed singing going on in schools.
Our choirs of 700 plus and orchestras would not be able to make beautiful music in the MFC.
We are so incredibly disappointed to have to cancel for a second year in a row but we have dates for 2022 13-16 September in the MFC.

Bring a Can - Mufti Day Next Thursday (16 September)
Due to Alert Level 2 restrictions, the Soup Kitchen street collection scheduled for Friday, 17 September has been cancelled. Donations can be made online.
To help the Soup Kitchen and also as it will be our Social Justice Week next week, we have decided to hold a 'Bring a 'Can' Mufti Day' on Thursday, 16 September. A list of items that the Soup Kitchen has indicated would be good to have are:
Rice
Pasta
Tinned tomatoes
Lentils
Thank you for your support.
