Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Special thanks for all your support with our Olympic Quiz. We appreciate your financial generosity and our senior students for supporting younger students in learning Olympic knowledge and helping out with testing. Tuakana Teina in action. So far we have raised $1500.00 Thank you for your support. Money raised can be deposited into the Parents and Friends bank account. Hasn't it been a privilege to watch the resilience of all the athletes who competed at Tokyo. How insprational was our wahine Lisa Carrington (Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki and Ngāti Porou). An amazing role model for us all. This year's Olympics included more history for our students - a re-scheduled Olympics and a spectator free Oympics. We have the Para Olympics coming up later on in August and we only have to wait another three more years for a smorgasbord of sport.
Thank you so much to Mrs Woodbury and Mrs Wood who took Room 3 over to the Home of Compassion to share their gifts and talents with the elderly. The children brought a lot of joy to many last Thursday afternoon.

Breakfast club is on Tuesday from 8.10am in the After School Care Room.
Mrs Stephen and myself arrived at school to the most beautiful sunrise last Thursday morning. Our school has the most stunning outlook.
Just a reminder that parents can't park on Hill Street on the bus stop. There is plenty of parking on Molesworth Street which is a short walk up to school. Thanking you for your attention to this matter.
Every Tuesday is Trash free Tuesday.
Please keep in your prayers those in our school community who are sick and are suffering loss.
For all your uniform requirements please head to NZ Uniforms on Thorndon Quay.
If you require any second hand items please let the office know. The lost property chest is overflowing. Please check it for any lost or misplaced items.
Arohanui,

We will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption on Thursday, 19th August at 12.45pm, St Mary's Hall. You are welcome to join us as we celebrate this very special feast day.
Last Thursday, we welcomed new students and their families to our school.
We are all blessed to be a part of such a wonderful school community.

Congratulations to our netball teams who played last Saturday. Playing as a team, great ball skills and a supportive whanau on the sideline was the secret to our success.

Sacred Heart Fern's Surprise Visitor at their Netball Training Session
We had a surprise visitor - Kelly Jury, a Silver Fern and Pulse player! She took the girls for an hours training passing on some great tips and tricks and was happy to answer loads of questions.
Bernie, Bri's mum, organised this amazing session for the team. The girls amazement when Kelly turned up was priceless! A complete surprise!
Our Ferns have been having a fabulous season, currently still undefeated. They started in Grade E which was a huge mistake, and are now sitting comfortably in Grade C. With one game down in the competition round, there is still along way to go! Tomorrow's game is a tough one as we played this team when first moved to Grade C and it was a tough one.
Attached is a photo of the majority of the team with Kelly. Just missing Maia, who was not well and Bree, who left early for dancing.
Next week, 18th August (Wednesday), the whole school will have an individual and class photo taken so we encourage our students to wear complete school winter uniform. Thank you.
Parent Volunteers to Help with Soup Kitchen Collection
Kia ora e te whānau.
As part of our focus on Social Justice, we are supporting the Home of Compassion Soup Kitchen's annual appeal on Friday, 17th September. The Soup Kitchen was founded by Suzanne Aubert in Wellington in 1901 and has been supporting homelessness in Pōneke since that time. Amazing!
We are looking for some volunteer parents to supervise senior students as they collect donations for the Soup Kitchen near the Wellington High Court on Molesworth Street, between 9am and 2pm.
We need about 5 parents and would run a roster and collect with the children for around one hour. It would take just over an hour with a walk to and from school with the students. The more volunteers we have, the shorter our shifts might be.
Can you please let nicola@trustproperties.co.nz know if you are available to help support our senior students to support others in our community.
