Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Last term, I reflected on the privilege of being a school principal and the enormous pleasure I get from my job.
Throughout my time on my Sabbatical, I let my mind dwell on the special things that I love about my job at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
Beautiful smiles and conversations with students who are so enthusiastic about learning.
A staff who are always digging deep to find those special ways to excite students about learning.
My unstoppable feet and body that refuse to stay still during school singing and school assemblies. I love seeing the arts in action at school.
The "socialisation" in the school playground. Seeing our students share with their parents what they have been doing while at school.
Talking softly to the child when they are feeling uptight while giving them the space to regain their composure and trust.
The swell of pride you feel as your Kapa Haka group performs and gives it their all.
The quiet satisfaction you feel when a visitor tells you they love the ‘feel’ of your school.
Student leaders supporting younger students with their faith.
I could go on! The stories of joy, connection, curiosity, and community are boundless.
I am grateful to the staff and Board of Trustees who actively supported my Sabbatical. I look forward to sharing my findings with you all.
A warm welcome to Arlo and Frankie, who started in Room 1 on Monday.
Thanks to Christine, Clare and Sue who presented the Sacred Heart Cathedral School local curriculum at the Kahui Ako hui.
On Monday, I recieved the resignations of Jane Regan and Eli Scarlett effective from the end of term 4 this year. Both have served the Sacred Heart Cathedral School community with the upmost dignity and respect. How lucky has our school been to have such high calibre teachers. Jane and Eli we are so grateful for the legacy you are both leaving. I will start the recuritment process for these roles over the next few weeks.

Junior Syndicate - Term 3
Middle Syndicate - Term 3
Kia ora and welcome back. We hope you have had a relaxing break over the holidays and are ready for an exciting term ahead.
Thank you for all your support in Terms 1 and 2. It has been much appreciated.
Please note the information below. Term 3’s Long Term Plan is also attached.
Persuasive Speeches- Years 5-6
Below is a timetable for homework over the next three weeks. From Week 2, your child’s homework is to memorise their speech. In Week 1, it is expected that all children will have their speech written and edited. Most will have their speech typed up, those who have not finished publishing their speech will bring a photocopy of their draft home to practise from, (they will be given time in school later on the week to finish publishing their speech and to make their cue cards.)
In week 3, all children will present their speeches to the class. From here, three-four representatives from each class will be chosen to present their speeches to the Syndicate on Friday of Week 3. Then a single Year 5 and one Year 6 will be chosen to represent the school on 17th August at the speech competition.
We would appreciate your help with this process.
PE:
On Monday, Week 2, the syndicate will go to Kilbirnie ASB for PE sessions. As we leave early in the morning, please send your child to school in PE gear. The sessions finish after week 6. We are also going to St Mary’s for Kiwisport on Tuesdays for four one hour sessions with St Mary’s students. As this again involves the whole syndicate and is also in the morning, students will also need to come to school on Tuesdays (Weeks 2- 6) in PE uniform.
ICAS Dates:
If your child is involved in ICAS, please note the dates of exams below. Each exam has a window of 5 days to sit each exam so if your child is sick on the day do not worry.
ICAS Writing - Week 3
ICAS English - Week 4
ICAS Science - Week 5
ICAS Maths - Week 6
Reminders will be put in Room’s 6 and 7’s diaries.
Nga Mihi.
