Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Christine Geraghty
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
A warm welcome to Landon who started school on Monday. We hope you and your family feel welcome and supported, as you start your learning journey.
A reminder that next Frida,y 11th June is a 'Teacher Only Day' so there will be no school for the students on this date.
What a wonderful Liturgy we had to celebrate all our Pasifika cultures at Sacred Heart last Thursday. The students sang, danced and read beautifully. It is always lovely to see the little ones supported by the bigger ones!
Special thanks to Jane Regan and Julius Solia for their work preparing students and to the senior students who took a leadership role. Here are some photos and videos during this lovely occasion.

Last Friday, we were treated to a Samoan author, Dahlia Malaeulu, who shared how she came to write her books. These are suitable for a big range of ages and will be available for children to read from our library. Thanks to Kate Woodbury who organised this.

Following on from Pink Shirt Day, we are reminded constantly through the teachings of Jesus to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". It should guide all behaviour, with and to others. During lockdown, we were regularly reminded to be "kind". Please help us by reinforcing these messages with your children.
We remember the people down South as they struggle to cope with the flooding and cleaning up.
Arohanui,
Christine Geraghty

2022 Enrolments CLOSE on 31 JULY 2021
A reminder that our 2022 enrolments close on 31 July 2021. If your child has a sibling that you would like to attend Sacred Heart Cathedral School in 2022, please ensure that a completed Enrolment form, Preference Certificate and Attendance Dues form are submitted to the school before 31 July 2021. The preference certificate needs to be completed and signed by a Bishop's Agent - this would usually be your parish priest. A copy of your child's baptismal certificate and NZ birth certificate or NZ passport is also needed. The enrolment pack can be downloaded from the school website: http://www.sacred-heart.school.nz or call the school office for a copy (04) 4724047.
An Update from Bernadette Who is Currently on a Sabbatical
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through term 2. Where does time go? I have been very fortunate to have been chasing the sunshine for most of the term. I have been getting up and heading out for a two hour walk each morning. Island Bay certainly has lots of great walking tracks. I have also loved visiting schools and carrying out professional reading for my research project.

Paid Union Meeting on 24th June 2021
We have been advised that there will be a Paid Union Meeting for primary teachers on the afternoon of Thursday, 24th June 2021. At this meeting members will vote on the direction and priorities for their 2022 collective agreement renewal campaign. This Paid Union Meeting is not strike action and the law allows for two Paid Union Meetings each year.
On 24th June, we ask our parents, where possible, to support teachers by picking children up at the earlier time of 1pm. School will remain open in the afternoon with supervision for those children who cannot be picked up early. Please advise Cathy in the office (office@sacred-heart.school.nz) if you are unable to pick up your child early so that supervision can be arranged. After School Care will operate as normal from 2.40pm.

Samoan Language Week Art Senior Syndicate
The seniors have looked at a Samoan artist Tuffery, who is a Polynesian artist born in Wellington, to a Samoan mother and Rarotongan and Tahitian father. He draws on this Pacific Island heritage in his art. Visiting the Pacific Islands has helped him understand and value his heritage. Here are some samples of art from Rm 8, 9 and 10 based on the work of Tuffery.
Wgtn Girls' Gym/Dance Performance
Last week, Wellington Girls put on a gymnastics dance performance for the Middle Syndicate. There were three groups of performers, we all enjoyed the performances, they even let some kids dance along with them! It was also a dance competition. Their groups tried their very best and I thought it was a fantastic performance! Wellington Girls will be giving the Middle Syndicate gymnastics lessons for the next 6 weeks. We are all excited that they will be teaching us.
