Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Another wonderful week of learning here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. Thank you again for your generosity with Easter treats for our Easter baskets. Much appreciated. The raffle closes Thursday 25 March, winners will be drawn on Monday 29th March and will be announced in the school Newsletter on Wednesday 31 March. Thanks to everyone who has already purchased tickets. We also have extra tickets in the office. We also gave the Parish a basket so they could raffle and raise funds for the Cathedral. Special thanks to our Cathy and Darren who created beautiful Easter baskets. Darren your creative side was truly out last Friday.
Lent is an time where we can all reflect and become people of faith.
"Use Lent well and our hearts will be absorbed by the mission, we will be enthused and we will" Make Disciples." Cardinal John Dew
We are all looking forward to visiting Pipitea Marae next week. Staff have planned many exciting activities to complement learning for this wonderful cultural experience.
Thank you for all that you do for our school. Feedback is always welcomed so we can improve our sytems and processes.
Kia tāu nga manaakitanga a te Ariki ki

May the Lord's blessings be bestowed on you now and always.

As part of your school donation we have purchased a subscription for every student in Years 1-6 for Reading Eggs and Mathletics. If you are unsure of your child's password please contact their teacher.
$22.00 for a Reading Eggs and Mathletics subscription is great value for money and an opportunity to access Literacy and Mathematics in a fun way.
We have a large amount of control over how we can prevent the spread of COVID-19. Even with the new variants of the virus, the most important things we can do remain the same:
For our school we will:
- display QR code posters for the NZ COVID Tracer app.
- keep our visitor register, attendance register and timetables up to date to help with contact tracing if needed.
- be monitoring for illness and asking anyone who is unwell to remain at home, or to go home.
- encourage people with relevant symptoms to seek medical advice through Healthline (0800 358 5453) or their GP and get tested for COVID if recommended to do so.
- reinforce the importance of good hand washing and drying.
- reinforce good cough and sneeze etiquette.
- clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly.
Your whānau will also have good practices to follow to keep yourselves safe:
- check in using the NZ COVID Tracer app everywhere you go (the sooner you get notified that you were at a location of interest, the easier it will be to keep yourself and your whānau safe).
- switch on the Bluetooth function on the app (go to the dashboard in the app to do this).
- always stay home if you are unwell and seek advice from Healthline (0800 358 5453) or your GP.
- get tested if recommended to do so. Testing is free to everyone in New Zealand!
- wash and dry hands thoroughly and frequently.
- practise good cough and sneeze etiquette.
- regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces in your home.
- wear face coverings on public transport.
- for those of you who think you might have been at a location of interest at the specified time, follow the instructions on the Ministry of Health website or if you are unsure what to do, contact Healthline (0800 358 5453) for advice about getting tested.
Get your information from good sources
- The Ministry of Education provides us with specific advice for what needs to happen in schools and early learning services. Some of the rules are different for schools, early learning services and workplaces than the rules you need to follow when we are out and about with people you don’t know. The main one is we have different physical distancing requirements than the general public. That is because we have good systems in place to prevent spread of COVID.
- The Ministry of Education also has information for parents, caregivers and whānau.
- The Government’s Unite against COVID-19 website is the main website to go to get great advice.
Congratulations to Alyssa Room 6 who has been awarded a GOLD certificate in Mathletics. Well done Alyssa!
Junior Syndicate Waterfront Trip
Yesterday, the Junior School went on a trip to the Waterfront, Te Papa and Frank Kitts Park as New Zealand celebrates "Seaweek" (6th March to 14th March) - Connecting with Our Seas. Special thanks to all our amazing adult helpers who supported our students and staff. Thank you for giving up your time to be with us.

Fancy Feet Day this Friday (12th March)
This Friday as part of Moving March month, we would like our students to come in fancy and colourful footwear.
Student Council's Easter Colouring Competiton
The Student Council is holding an Easter Colouring Competition and hope to receive as many entries as possible. There will be a Junior, Middle and Senior category with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for each syndicate. The student council will be giving the teachers pictures for colouring in. If your child is interested in entering this competition, they need to ask their teacher for a picture. Entries need to be labelled with your name and class. The competition closes on 17th of March. We look forward to seeing these amazing entries and the Student Council will judge and announce winners on the 19th of March.
I am standing on the platform with a guard at the train station. I am on Platform 4 and 3. The guard is wearing an orange high vis vest. We are wearing our masks because of COVID-19. The train guard sells tickets to people on the train. The clock tells you when the train is coming. I have been on the train with Alex and Ms Wood. Last year, we went to Johnsonville. I like trains.
