Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
I hope you and your families are all well. There is nothing like an announcement from the Prime Minister at 9pm on a Saturday night to keep us all on our toes. Our students are so responsive when we change levels. Please remember during Alert 2 to drop/pick up at the gate or scan the QR code.
We had a beautiful Mihi Whakatau last Thursday to welcome new families to Sacred Heart Cathedral School. Special thanks to Whaea Rangimoeroa who guided the staff around tikanga. We were very proud of our student speakers and the singing by all students. Thank you also to Adele who organised and served morning tea with our student council.
Our "Pool Party" for our Year 7 and 8 students was great success despite it getting a little chilly. Thanks to Nicola for running the BBQ and keeping everyone well fed.

We were truly blessed to have a perfect evening for "Wheels Night" and such a great turn out from our Sacred Heart Cathedral School families. Thanks Geraldine and Amanda for all your work on evening.

Both the Pool Party and Wheels Night are great ways for us to connect as a school community.
During the past fortnight, I have spent time in all classrooms. The school feels really settled. The students are loving being back and the classrooms are reflecting what learning has happened over the past few weeks.
Please continue to give us feedback so we can make Sacred Heart Cathedral School a thriving environment for your whānau.
During the month of March, we offer Prayers to St Joseph.
Blessed Joseph to us all. Guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen.
This Friday, 5th March is a mufti day. Please bring an Easter treat for our Easter raffle. Thank you.
Arohanui,

The Sacred Heart Cathedral School Way
At Sacred Heart Cathedral School, we are all trying to be people of peace and justice.
Respect, Responsibility and Safety are always our key areas that we believe will make our school a safe place for everyone.
Each class has unpacked these expectations and have created a class treaty. On Friday, we shared these in a beautiful Liturgy.

Student Council's Easter Colouring Competiton
The Student Council is holding an Easter Colouring Competition and hope to receive as many entries as possible. There will be a Junior, Middle and Senior category with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for each syndicate. The student council will be giving the teachers pictures for colouring in. If your child is interested in entering this competition, they need to ask their teacher for a picture. Entries need to be labelled with your name and class. The competition closes on 17th of March. We look forward to seeing these amazing entries and the Student Council will judge and announce winners on the 19th of March.
Our student council are running a breakfast club for students on Tuesdays from 8.10am in the After School Care room. Weetbix and milk will be available. This is sponsored by Fonterra.

Kia ora koutou.
On Thursday, 18th March, the school is going to visit Pipitea Marae. The purpose of the day is to increase the children’s knowledge of marae protocol and tikanga. It is also an opportunity to further develop an understanding of tuakana/teina, as the older children will be caring for the younger children in cross-class grouped activities. We are excited to visit Pipitea Marae as it allows us to further develop relationships with our local marae and it is an opportunity for our children to know more about early Poneke history.
Should we still be at Covid Alert Level 2, this event will not happen and we will inform you of this closer to the time.
We will need assistance from parents to help walk the children to and from the marae. We will be leaving school at 9.15am and returning from the marae at 1.45pm. Parents are also welcome to stay on and join us with different activities.
If you are able to offer any help, please fill in the form below and return it to your child’s class teacher.
This is going to be a wonderful experience for all staff and students at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and we are very grateful for your help.
Ngā mihi.

Easter Hamper Raffle
On Friday, 5th March, we are holding a mufti day and instead of a gold coin donation, we are asking children to bring one item to go in our Easter Hamper. This can be something sweet or an Easter ornament. We ask that no hot cross buns or preishable items be donated. The hampers will then be raffled off. Money raised from this raffle will go towards enhancing our external and internal school environment.
5 tickets at $2 per ticket was sent home with instructions attached to the envelope. Raffle closes on Thursday, 25th March and winners will be drawn on Monday, 29th March and will be announced in the school newsletter on Wednesday, 31 March.
Thank you for your support.
