Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
It was great news to hear we moved to Alert Level 1 so quickly. While new cases in the community are always disappointing to hear of, it is reassuring to see how quickly they have been identified. I am sure we are all grateful for the efforts of our health workers, scientists and technicians in this regard and the thousands of people who have been tested.
As a community, we need to avoid the complacency which New Zealanders tend to quickly move into when we are at lower alert levels. Please do continue to scan QR codes and monitor closely for illness within your whānau.
We welcome Athena, who started in Room 1 on Monday. Athena, you will love your time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. Special blessing to you and your family.
Please support our fundraisers:

Our Student Council are running a Breakfast Club on a Tuesday morning from 8.10am (Weetbix and milk). Thanks also to our teaching staff who are supporting the Council and to Fonterra who are supplying milk and weetbix.
Last weekend, I took my daughter to Dunedin as she will be studying at Otago University. As I said goodbye to her on Sunday evening, I reflected on where the last eighteen years have gone. It just seems like yesterday when she was born and it is a distant memory when she met milestones. We get our children for such a short time to look after and then they are off following their dreams and passions. I am told that they do come back!! Savour these years with your own children as time goes by in the blink of an eye.
Blessings to you all. Thank you for all your generous donations that allow us as a school to offer our students exciting experiences.
I am looking forward to seeing you at Wheels Night and the Year 7 and 8 Pool Party.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Room 8's visit to Parliament:
We arrived at Parliament and went through security to access the Education Centre. We entered a mini version of the Debating Chamber and sat down in chairs that represented different people’s roles. We talked about the rules and laws of Parliament, before walking towards the real Debating Chamber. As we walked, we saw different portraits of past members of Parliament. When we arrived at the Debating Chamber, we were fascinated by the unique architecture. Especially since each piece had a historical meaning behind it. Then we went to the final room, which was the Theatre. We did some acting as if we were part of Parliament. Our next and last destination was Capital E, where we filmed a News Show about Parliament. We had different groups behind and in front of the cameras. We played around with our roles and after around half an hour, we prepared the cameras for our Dress Rehearsal. After our last performance, we sat down and watched our final product. Overall, we had a fantastic day and really enjoyed the experience!

Baking Group - Volunteers needed!
One of our parents is wanting to organise a Baking Group of parents. If you are happy to provide some baking for a family in need of cheering up or are celebrating the arrival of a newborn, please contact Shali - 027 499 2704 / Shalindri.m.silva@gmail.com
This has worked a treat in the past and families are always very appreciative of some home baking. The more people that volunteer the better as this spreads the load and makes it easier for everyone. Thank you.
