Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Thank you all so much for all the support you are giving us at Alert Level 2. Although we don't know what is in store for us in 2021, we must feel heartened by what we have learnt in 2020 and the positive attitude of staff and students all committed to key public health messages. Where possible, please drop your child at the gate. If you do come into school please, scan or contact trace in the school office.
It was wonderful for our staff to connect with you all last Thursday. Thank you for all your positive feedback. We are very fortunate at Sacred Heart Cathedral School to have a staff who all manage to incorporate best practice and faith, it is a real strength of our school. If you missed the presentations, the powerpoints are available in this newsletter.
A very warm welcome to Dylan who has joined Room 8 and Kiyan who started in Room 1. Welcome to Sacred Heart Cathedral School. You will have a wonderful time at our school and will make lifelong friends.
Today is Ash Wednesday. It is the first day of the liturgical season of Lent. The meaning behind tracing a cross on our foreheads with ashes is a summary of our Christian life. Each year, the readings for Ash Wednesday are the same. They call us to a change of heart and teach us about the traditional Lenten practices of prayer. As we are in Alert 2 we were unable to have ashes placed on our forehead. Instead our student leaders supported classes with special Ash Wednesday Prayers.
Ash Wednesday Liturgy led by Senior Students.
Full school Kapa Haka - Last Thursday morning.
We were very lucky that we were able to have our annual beach day over at Oriental Bay. The children were simply amazing and had so much fun playing in the sand and at the park. Special thanks to all our helpers - thank you so much for all that you did to keep our children safe. It was a day where we had all seasons - thanks to sunhats and jackets, we were able to protect ourselves.

Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt,
Principal
Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Hi, as the President of Friends of Sacred Heart Cathedral School (FOSH), I'm writing to say a very grateful thanks to those who have put their names down to help with events on the FOSH 2021 calendar. I'm attaching this again so you can see where we still need some help. I ask that you all please take a look at the calendar and identify one event for which you could make yourself available to help. These events and activities really do help create a vibrant school community. We know how much the students love and look forward to the school disco, wheels night, movie night and other events throughout the year. Without the help of parents these cannot happen. We're a richer community for them and it need only take a very small amount of your time. I'm looking forward to hearing from many of you by Monday, 22 February with your choice of event for which you can help with. I'll then be in touch with the details.
Many thanks.
Amanda

Message from Pope Francis - Lent: a time for renewing Faith, Hope and Love.
"Dear brothers and sisters, every moment of our lives is a time for believing, hoping and loving. The call to experience Lent as a journey of conversion, prayer and sharing of our goods, helps us – as communities and as individuals – to revive the faith that comes from the living Christ, the hope inspired by the breath of the Holy Spirit and the love flowing from the merciful heart of the Father."
The full 2021 Lenten Message from Pope Francis is available to view HERE.
A Message from the Archdiocese
The Archdiocese Office Manager has asked for parents not to pick up or drop off children in the Catholic Centre Carpark.
Drop off and Pick ups are challenging for us as a school community. There is limited parking on Hawkestone Street, plenty on Molesworth Street plus two Wilson carpark buildings on Hill Street.
Partial Closure of Hill Street on Monday (22th February)
There will be a partial closure of Hill Street on Monday, 22th February for crane working on the Cathedral. If the weather is not suitable for the crane to be working, the road will be partially closed on Tuesday, 23rd February.

After School Care is up and running. Robyn and her team have been supporting our After School Care students and helping them to adjust back to life after a great Summer. The yummy "Summer Menu" has been perfect for the hot days we have had recently.
Pam has joined the team as a Deputy Supervisior and is a real strength to an already very productive team.
After School Care is $55.00 per week or $15.00 per day for a casual.
Second Hand Uniform Items Wanted
Our second hand uniform items have been depleted. If you have any second hand uniform items that your child/children have grown out of, that are still in good condition and would be happy to donate it to the school, please drop it off to the school office. We are especially interested in summer dresses, any size. We are encouraging parents who take second hand uniform items to donate them back to the school once their children have grown out of them.
Many thanks.
Allegra from Room 3 has lost her black Macpac puffer jacket. It has her name on the tag inside the jacket "Allegra S'. Please check your child's black puffer jacket and if found, please return to Room 3 or drop it off at the office. Thank you.
Dine and Dance - Rescheduled until later on in the year
