Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
I am ever so grateful for the way our students and whānau have coped while we are having renovations. I have not heard one single grumble. Totally amazing. If you need to come into the office we are up in the library. We are still a few more weeks away from moving back to the office - thanks for your patience.
Special welcome to Epati in Room 1 who started on Monday. You are going to have a wonderful time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and will make lifelong friends.
Thank you for all the support you give our school it is always so appreciated. Thanks for all the help at the disco. A special mention must go to Tash, Frances, Evan, and Sera for your generosity in setting up Conolly Hall and coordinating logistics on the night. Thank you also to the chefs on the BBQ to quote one of our students "best disco ever."

Thank you for all the amazing Christmas treats for our Christmas raffle. We have quite a few NZ Uniform vouchers that will accompany our first few prize winners, and of course, our first prize, which is a Chromebook. I have also given the Parish a hamper as well so they can use it for their Christmas raffle.
Check out this video some of our students are sharing about what they have achieved as writers. The staff are pretty proud.
Have a great week and take care of yourselves.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Ex-student Success in Rugby League
Steven Nunn, an ex-student of Sacred Heart Cathedral School, has been selected to play for the U17 Parramatta Eels team and will be moving to Sydney. He dropped into the school with his mum for a surprise visit yesterday. Well done Steven!
Our apologies to Athena, Room 5 who achieved Distinction in ICAS spelling. She was missed off the list last week in error. Well done Athena!
Michael Stewart from Caritas visited the Middle Syndicate today to share about ways Caritas shows Solidarity in the Pacific. We had great discussions about what it means and heard stories to help our understanding.

RESILIENT KIDS - Parent Information Session on 19th November 2024
Talofa to all parents, caregivers and family members,
Mark the 19th of November (Tuesday) in your calendar for our Resilient Kids parent information session.
Madeleine Taylor from People’s Skills Consulting will lead the session. Her work with children, parents, and schools inspired her to write “The Parenting Road Code.” During the workshop, she will share her insights and observations on how we can support our tamariki in today’s complex world. Madeleine is an engaging speaker, and we are confident this will be a valuable opportunity for all our school families.
You can join us online through this link or participate in person in Room 6. The workshop starts at 4:00 PM and will last for approximately 45 minutes.
The flyer is attached to this email for your information.
Netsafe Online PD For Whānau Webinar On Tuesday (19th November) at 7.30 PM
Hīkoi - Tuesday (19th November)
Morena e te whānau,
Another stunning day in our beautiful city.
On Tuesday, 19th November the Hikoi will be at Parliament.
Organisers have been working with the Police and our local Ministry of Education Office and we have been alerted that there will be road closures around our school.
At this point road closures for vehicles will include Molesworth, Lambton Quay and Hill Street.
Parking will be at a premium.
As a one-off, St Mary's College has allowed us to use their bottom court (accessed by Hawkestone Street) for drop-off and pick-up only.
The Junior and Senior School will not be swimming as the buses cannot enter Hill Street.
I will be walking students to the station after school on the 19th of November.
Take special care of yourselves.
Ngā mihi,
Bernadette Murfitt
Junior Syndicate End Of Year Picnic on Tuesday (3rd December)
After swimming on Tuesday, 3rd December, the Junior Syndicate will visit Shorland Park in Island Bay for a Syndicate Picnic. We will need parent helpers to make this event happen. Please fill in the Google Form to allow your child to attend and to indicate if you can help. Many thanks for your support with this.
Ice Blocks 2026 Seniors Camp Fundraiser Every Friday Till The End Of The Year
NETBALL:
SHCS Rebels - Year 3/4 played Hataitai School this weekend and won 8-2. Player of the day was Tilomai (Room 3) for great play in attack.
FOOTBALL:
Aotearoa Amigos - Last Friday's game against the Waterside Wonders was challenging for the Aotearoa Amigos. Despite facing bigger opponents and strong winds, our team demonstrated strength in defeat, fighting till the end with resilience and sportsmanship. Fintan (Room 5), our player of the day, exemplified this resilience. Despite his injuries, he showed the opponents that it takes a lot more than that to bring our team down.
