Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
A Prayer from Pope Francis (Fratelli Tutti) - So Appropriate for Social Justice Week
Īnoi whakakapinga: Te Reta a Pāpā Werahiko, mai i Fratelli Tutti
Lord, Father of our human family,
you created all human beings equal in dignity:
pour forth into our hearts a fraternal spirit
and inspire in us a dream of renewed encounter,
dialogue, justice, and peace.
Move us to create healthier societies
and a more dignified world,
a world without hunger, poverty, violence, and war.
May our hearts be open
to all the peoples and nations of the earth.
May we recognise the goodness and beauty
that you have sown in each of us,
and thus forge bonds of unity, common projects,
and shared dreams.
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Welcome to Parker and his family, who have joined the Sacred Heart Cathedral School whānau. You are going to have a wonderful time at our school and will make lifelong friends.
Special blessings to all our Tongan families who are sharing their culture this week with us all.
This year’s theme for Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e lea faka-Tonga | Tonga Language Week is 'E tu'uloa 'a e Lea faka-Tongá 'o ka lea'aki 'i 'api, siasí (lotú), mo e nofo-'a-kāingá, which means the Tongan Language will be sustainable if used at home, church and in the wider community.
The word TU'ULOA in the theme this year means to continuously grow, nurture, and sustain a valued idea, practice, event, or memory in an enduring way.
What an amazing action-packed, fun-filled week we have had. Market day, Mathswell, Father's Day Liturgy, movie making, Dr Chris Bowden from Victoria University, Michael from Caritas. So much on offer.
Special thanks to the amazing staff at Sacred Heart Cathedral School who every day give it their all and support everything our school has to offer. I feel very blessed to work alongside the colleagues I have.
This week is also Social Justice Week - Peace begins with all of us. Personal Peace begins with ourselves and with God. These are the first steps to building peace in our community.
Have a wonderful week and thank you for all the support you give our school.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Sacred Heart Cathedral School
How lucky were we to have Dr Chris Bowden speak to our whānau on what strategies we can use to build resilient children?
He spoke of the 3Cs:
Connections to self and others, helping our tamariki to build up their own connections.
Coping - the importance of problem-solving.
Control - focus on what you can control and what you can let go of.
We have to make sure that our tamariki always focus on solutions and try and catch any negative thoughts.
Please take the time to have a look through the slide deck.
We had a stunning liturgy to celebrate Father's Day.
Thank you to everyone who attended and Geraldine and Adele who organised afternoon tea.
As a congregation, we were in awe of what the children shared and how they made Dads, Grandads, Uncles and significant adults feel special and important.
We remember those Dad's, Grandad"s and Uncles who are resting in heaven. RIP.
To Our Filipino Community - Feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz Liturgy Tomorrow (7th September)

So, let's get a team together to organise the disco for us.
Thank you to our senior students (L-R on Image 1): Cielo (Room 9), Euan (Room 9), Jonfred (Room 10), Joshua (Room 8), JC (Room 9) and Adee (Room 10), who represented our school in the Mathswell Competition last Wednesday at Victoria University, Kelburn.
