Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Another wonderful week of learning here in Thorndon.
Please keep our Year 7 and 8 students and their teachers in your prayers as they embark on the outdoors together. Thank you to our parent helpers who have given their time so generously to be up at Kaitoke for the week. I want to thank our school community as you all have embraced and supported our fundraising activities. Everything from market days to raffles to iceblocks. Thank you so much! "All of the children are all of ours". The power of collective fundraising takes the pain out of paying for camp.
Here are some images of our seniors having fun games at camp.

A welcome to Lwam who has started in Room 1. We are delighted that you are here with us at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. You will make wonderful lifelong friends.
The Lent season has flown by Palm Sunday next week. You are most welcome to join us for our Easter Liturgy on Holy Thursday at 9.30am in St Mary's College Hall. There will be limited parking available on the Sacred Heart Cathedral School courts. Please note that there is no parking at St Mary's College.
After-School Care Arrangements:
Please ensure you have after-school care arrangements for your child at the end of the school day. Please note that there is no supervision after school. We do have After School Care available which you can book your child at very short notice. The expectation from school is that if children are late being picked up they sit on the steps and wait for their parents.
Room 2 participated in Adoration last week.
We come in worship, we come in community, we come in expectant vulnerability. In peace, may we continue our Lenten journey from Lent into Holy Week. May worship be filled with a sense of wonder, a sense of fragile longing about the events to come, a sense of what it means to be part of our sacred humanity.
In the spirit of Jesus we pray.
Amen.
Have a wonderful week.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Summer Football:
- Sacred Heart Junior Strikers vs Firebirds won 3-0. After a tough season, our team played brilliantly in the semi-final and won! Player of the day was Landon (Room 5) for some fantastic defence. Well done!
- Sacred Heart Strikers vs Apocalyptic Popcorns lost 1-4.
Weetbix TRYathlon:
It was a beautiful sunny St Paddy’s morning. From 7:00am, lots of families made their way to Kilbirnie park to participate in the 2024 Weetbix TRYathlon. This TRYathlon is designed for Kiwi kids aged 6-15 years to help them stay active and healthy through a programme of participation and has been running since 1992 and is a rite of passage for Kiwi kids. To date, over 475,000 Kiwi kids have given it a TRY!
Great thing about this TRYathlon it is open to Kiwi kids of all sporting abilities and is a fun day out for kids, parents, and families. Participants get to swim, cycle, and run their way around age-appropriate courses.
These two legends Violet Buck and Lyla Schmidt-Siitia (Rm 6) found each other amongst all the other kids, they both participated in the Individual category (age 9) which consists of 100m swim, 4km Bike ride and 1.5km run, such an amazing effort girls!, and even though they were participating in the individual category, they showed great support for each other. Violet finished and came back and ran with Lyla to the finish line which ended with big smiles and hugs!
Well done to all those who took part of this well-run event!
Bailey (Room 3) and Harley (Room 6) played for the Cook Islands in Auckland. Both boys walked away from the tournament as MVPs and both teams went undefeated. Congratulations boys!

NZEI Paid Union Meetings on Wednesday (27th March)
NZEI will be holding paid union meetings later this month. The meetings will focus on discussing and voting on a plan to get the new government to focus on the key, longstanding issues members know make a difference for us and our Tamariki.
Our staff have chosen meetings to cause minimal disruption to learning. Teachers in each syndicate will alternate between two meetings on Wednesday, 27th March so that Tamariki will be able to remain at school with supervision.
The teaching staff are grateful for the support from whānau and the community that enables them to attend these meetings.
Kotahitanga Day on Monday (April 8th)
On Monday, 8th April, we will be holding Kotahitanga Day. We are encouraging students to wear something that represents their culture.
As part of the cultural celebrations, each syndicate will hold a shared morning tea. Students are asked to bring a morning tea item from a culture of significance to them. We have several students with nut allergies across the school, so please avoid using nuts in the items shared.
Please note - if your child has food allergies, we ask that you send them with an item they can eat as well. We will ask students to eat only these items.
Ministry of Education Curriculum Day (NO SCHOOL) on Friday (31st May)
Please be informed that there will be no classes for our students on Friday, 31st May as it is a Ministry of Education Curriculum Day.
