Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend with your whānau as we celebrated Matariki as a nation. It's such a special time for us all.
I was so proud of our Performance Kapa Haka Group who performed for employees at Spark today as part of Spark Matariki Festivities. Thank you to Nik, Sue, Frances, Rachel and all our parent helpers. The performance group was stunning and captivated the audience. Thanks to Ari who organised for us to provide the bracket for the Spark employees.

FYI, a major construction project is happening at St Mary's College scheduled from July 2024 until October 2025.
Please take some time over the holiday period to recharge. I am so grateful for all the support you give our team here at school and After School Care. Thank you for setting time aside this week to attend our mid-year interviews. If students are not quite where they need to be we would have communicated this to you. If you have any concerns about your child's learning please reach out to us.
Take care, keep warm, and keep well.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Sacred Heart Cathedral School
A confirmed case of impetigo has been reported to the school. As this is extremely contagious, if your child has any symptoms of this, please have this checked out by your GP. Here is some information on impetigo: https://info.health.nz/conditions-treatments/skin/school-sores-impetigo/.
71.5% were in class from 24th - 27th of June. We had a high number of students absent from school due to illness this past week.
Please ensure that your child is at school every day unless they are sick or at a medical appointment.
High attendance and high academic achievement go hand in hand.
To put it simply, if your child is not at school, they cannot learn what the rest of the class are learning.
Please reach out to me if you have any issues at all around attendance.
BASKETBALL:
Sacred Heart Ruamoko (Year 5/6 Div 1) vs Scots Warriors lost 36-41 for 5th/6th playoff. Final game of the term and it went down to the wire. Well done to the team! They played in the top division and it was tough work but they took on the challenge. Thanks to Lyla, Violet and Dougal for helping out in Monday's game. Player of the day was Archie (Room 6).
Sacred Heart Tangaroa (Year 5/6 Div 5) vs LBS Pacers lost 12-20.
Sacred Heart Tawhirimatea (Year 5/6 Girls) played Kilbirnie Aces and won 33-17. Great final game for the girls. Player of the day was Jiezl (Room 7), great all round play on attack and defence. Special mention – The whole team, amazing how far everyone has come this season, getting stuck in, and just having a go! Look out Term 3!
Sacred Heart Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Creams (Year 7/8) both had to default last week's games due to sickness of several players. The Dunkin' Donuts still played with 3 players and 2 fill ins from another school. Well done Lucas, Jaylen and Micaiah.

Become Part of A Women’s Friendship Project
Are you a locally-connected woman who would like to get to know women who have recently settled in Aotearoa? Catholic Social Services (CSS) with partners will bring women together in a community setting. There will be activities to get to know each other with friendships growing over time. The women you will meet come from a range of life stages and live throughout the Greater Wellington region. We will begin with monthly gatherings on a Saturday afternoon in Lower Hutt with the first scheduled for 27th July. Your children are welcome to come too. Interested in becoming a locally-connected CSS volunteer? Would you like more information? Please contact Deirdre at Catholic Social Services: d.meskill@wn.catholic.org.nz or call 021 2213944.
