Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Updates From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
This year’s theme for Faahi Tapu he Vagahau Niue (Niue Language Week) is “Fakatūleva e Vagahau Niue mo e Tau Aga Fakamotu ma e Tau Atuhau”, which means Sustain Niue Language and Culture for Future Generations.
Vagahau Niue has been registered with UNESCO as an endangered language, so one of the challenges is the preservation of Vagahau Niue and Niue culture.
There really is a great feel around the school. The children have most certainly enjoyed seeing a little bit of the sun. All students need a school sunhat. These can be purchased from school for $15.
A very competitive game of touch rugby at lunchtime on Monday.
We had a stunning Liturgy to celebrate the importance of Grandparents. Thank you to our amazing students who really captured the importance of Grandparents. Thank you to all parents and Grandparents who attended our Liturgy and to our parents who organised and set up morning tea.
There is a lot happening throughout the term please keep an eye on the school calendar. We are looking forward to the disco tomorrow at St Mary's College gymnasium. Tickets can be purchased through school for $5.00 each. Parking will be available at the school after 5.30pm - this will enable our parents to pick up their children from After School Care.
A big shout out to our EPro8 teams - so amazing what our students can achieve under immense pressure. Thank you to Therese who has prepared our children to participate in this event.
Thank you all for everything that you do for us that makes our school run so smoothly.
Have a wonderful week.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Room 6 wrote about their role models and the qualities they most admired. Mila shared her writing about her Grandmother at the Grandparents Liturgy on Monday.
My Role Model
My grandma has always been a role model to me, since I opened my eyes. She has always been kind, loving and strong and from this day she has always been like an inspirational art piece. It's true! My grandma beats all adjectives. I always wonder, how do I explain such a person? How do I describe her with astonishing words? So I thought of some...
The first word is faithfulness. If there's one good thing that I would tell you about my grandma is that she is always faithful towards the future. She will always have faith towards me being successful, kind and super smart. Also when times are hard she will have faith that things will get better throughout the days.
The second word is that she is always, and I mean always super gentle. She’s gentle with her words and thoughts. If there’s a problem she would never handle it with anger and envy, she would handle it with gentleness and self control.
There’s an adjective that more than a million people know that word is kind ! Wow, my grandma must be really famous. She is always kind to her whanau, even strangers. I couldn't imagine how hard it is to be kind all the time not to get angry at people and let the little annoying things pass. That's why my grandma is AWESOME.
FUNNY! Yes, my grandma is very funny. And that is my last word. She will never let you down with one of her sick jokes and she will always make you laugh, that's the cool thing. She's really positive, that's why she's the best.
That is my little writing about my grandma and I love her very very much.

Last week, two teams from each senior syndicate class represented Sacred Heart at the EPro8 Challenge Inter School Competition.
Room 8:
Lachie, Rohan, George and Jj.
James, Noah L, Sophie E and Joshua.
Room 9:
Jamie, Aden, Ruby and Daisy.
Sabrina, Olivia, Emily A and Vanessa.
Room 10:
Alyssa, Malchus, Nina and Adee.
Ethan H, Ava Dorn, Annibelle and Lothar.
We were so proud of the way everyone showed our school values and challenged themselves.
EPro8 is a practical STEM programme. In the competitions, each group has 2-2.5 hours to attempt up to four challenges. Each challenge has different levels you have to pass before you can move on to anything else. It is a real test of the kids’ skills in building, electronics, communication and problem solving.
Congratulations to Jamie, Aden, Ruby and Daisy who have made it through to the next competition at the end of November. This team has an eye for detail and had great time management. They came second place on night two. Ka rawe!
A special mention has to go to Lachie, Rohan, George and Jj. This team was pipped at the post in a very tight race. They had built quality structures throughout the entire competition. If they had 20 seconds more, they would have come second on night one. They all handled themselves gracefully in the face of disappointment and were excellent competitors.
Watch this space to see how Jamie, Aden, Ruby and Daisy go in the next round!
School Disco 2023 at St Mary's College GYM on Thursday (19th October) - Note: CHANGE OF VENUE
PLEASE NOTE: THE VENUE FOR THE SCHOOL DISCO HAS CHANGED - IT WILL NOW BE AT THE ST MARY'S COLLEGE GYM, NOT THE HALL.
The St Mary's Gym is directly behind the hall if you are walking through from Sacred Heart Cathedral School to St Mary's. Walk down the steps beside the St Mary's Hall and the gym is located just at the bottom of the steps to the left.
Entry to the 2023 'Under the Sea’ Disco will be via ticket only. The ticket costs $5.00 per student. This will cover music, venue hire and an ice block. Our student council will be selling tickets each day in the classroom. Students will need to bring their $5.00 in a named envelope including their room number.
Thanks very much to our parent volunteers who are helping at the disco. So appreciated.
Parking will be available on our school court after 5.30 pm - this will enable our parents to pick up their children from After School Care easily.
