Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
We have had an amazing first week back. Thank you so much for all your support with our Readathon. As a staff, we really wanted to get all of our students to engage more with books and reading. This initiative has certainly kick-started the desire to pick up a book. We have a superb range of giveaways so get signed up and be a part of it.
Our Cathedral will open in early June. We are looking forward to being able to gather together as a community to worship. On Sunday, 9th June, the Parish will celebrate a homecoming at the 10:00am Mass. This will be followed by brunch. You are all welcome to attend and be a part of this very special occasion.
This week, we have welcomed Zita Smith from the Archdiocese of Wellington and her team Anna-Maria and Sue, who are reviewing the Special Character at our school. The team spoke with staff, students, trustees and whānau as well as completing observations classrooms during the teaching of Religious Education sessions and during prayer times.
Read-a-thon - Well done Kaatia (Room 5) for getting a few minutes reading in before the netball game. Such a great way to get your daily minutes in.
Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mums, grandmothers, aunties and significant women in our children's lives. We look forward to seeing you on Friday, 10th May at 10.00am at St Mary's College. Please note that there is no parking available at St Mary's College and limited parking on the school court.
Our tamariki are certainly loving hoop club. Please note this is paid for out of trips and activities.
Pop into school next Monday at 5:00pm for a session with Netsafe - you will get tips as to how you can support your child in a cyber world.
Have a great week everyone and thank you for everything you do for our school.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

2024 Sacred Heart Cathedral School – Read-a-thon Fundraiser
We are thrilled that our school is running its first Read-a-Thon fundraiser. The funds raised will go towards much-needed digital resources for our classrooms.
Our students will seek online sponsorship for their efforts during our Read-a-thon. We are very excited that our children will have access to digital resources that will further develop their reading skills, enhancing their vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking abilities.
How will this fundraiser work?
We have partnered with Go Raise It to bring our Read-a-thon to life and make it easy for everyone to participate. Go Raise It, is a fundraising company that uses an online platform to track, manage and collect donations. Being online, it is incredibly simple to connect our Read-a-thon with family and friends who live outside our neighbourhoods, city and even country to generate more support and donations. The Read-a-thon will run from May 6th until May 26th. Look for the letter and booklet your child will bring home today and help sign them up. There are many spot prizes!

NETBALL: First Game of the Season
Sacred Heart Angels (Year 5/6 C) vs Brooklyn Ninjas won 14-0. Player of the day was Kundiso (Room 7). Special mentions to Dana (Room 7) who played her first game ever and got some good tips and turnover ball, also Harper (Room 7) for great attacking play. It was a great first game played by everyone!
Sacred Heart Ferns (Year 5/6 E) vs Netwon Rangatira lost 2-11. Player of the day was Blandina (Room 6).
Sacred Heart Ace (Year 7/8 B) played EBIS Whetu. Although, the score was 8-4 EBIS, the score does not tell the full story. The Ace played an awesome game, starving EBIS of ball through most of the game. Great attacking lines and defence and amazing effort from all for the first game. Georgia (Room 9), who played her first game for Sacred Heart, was the player of the day.
Sacred Heart Shooting Stars (Year 7/8 C) vs SC Tui with a draw of 13. Player of the day was Harper-Rose (Room 10) who worked hard defending in the goal circle. Such a great team effort and start to the season!

BASKETBALL:
Sacred Heart Ruamoko (Year 5/6 B) vs Griffins won 30-25. Player of the day was Xavier (Room6) who dug it in and had some great shots.
Sacred Heart Tangaroa (Year 5/6 F) vs LBS Pacers won 20-18. Player of the day was Fletcher (Room 7). He was great at passing the ball around to his teammates and running up and down the court.
Sacred Heart Tawhirimatea (Year 5/6 Girls) vs CQS Kakapo won 22-8. Player of the day was Jiezl (Room 7) who was amazing on the court play attack and defence. She also showed great encouragement to the team. Special mention to Lyla (Room 6) who had great shots from rebounds and just having a go! Excellent work from the team and a great step up from last week.
