Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Welcome back to Term 3.
A big thank you for your support in sending along a gold coin for our students' non-uniform day on the last day of Term 2. We collected $201.00 for Caritas.
We welcome Summer to our school on the last day of Term 2. Summer is in Room 3. Welcome also to Ria who has started in Room 5, Herani and Shiloh who has started in Room 1. Summer, Ria, Herani and Shiloh, you will make lifelong friends at our school and we know that your family will love being part of our school community.
During the holidays, I had time to focus on gratitude and my own sense of thankfulness. Gratitude is a powerful attitude that allows us all to acknowledge and appreciate our own circumstances and the people around us. Practising gratitude can bring joy, deepen relationships, and enhance our overall outlook on life. It really does help in ensuring that an optimistic outlook is inevitable.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning from Professor Rangi Mātāmua about Matariki. Wasn't it incredible how we as a nation embraced Matariki and all that it encompasses? Remembering those loved ones who are no longer with us, embracing the now and planning for the future. I also enjoyed doing a little stargazing myself.
Matariki Liturgy:
Today, our Performance group went to Spark and did a performance for the staff as part of their Matariki celebrations. Special thanks to Arika (Reid's Mum) who organised this opportunity for our students. We are super grateful and others were able to appreciate the gift of our students.
Please keep Kerry (Mrs Baughen) in your thoughts and prayers as her father passed away in the weekend. May he rest in peace.
Thank you for all that you do to make our school the great place that it is.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Marae Noho Term 2
On Wednesday the year 5 and 6’s had the chance to sleep at Pipitea Marae!
When the rest of the school left we had the chance to play outside and get changed. Straight after we got to do some jobs and have a quick snack.
After that, we went into groups with 2 parents and went on a scavenger hunt around Wellington! It was an adventure finding out about some of the history of places in Te Whanganui a Tara. When everyone got back to the Marae, we had some games like pukana and then had dinner and played outside (again).
When everyone left all the kids had a game of spotlight!
After all the fun and excitement, everyone went to bed. In the morning when everyone was awake, we had breakfast, got changed out of our pajamas and did a big clean up together. We had a poroporoaki (farewell) and then headed back to school.
It was a really wonderful experience and we had so much fun while we were there.
Middle Syndicate (Room 5, 6, & 7) ASB Centre Sessions
The Middle Syndicate will be attending sessions at the ASB Centre (Akau Tangi Sports Centre) every second Friday this term. Please complete this Google Form for your child.
