Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Welcome to Jackson, Room 1, who joined our school on Monday, 13th November. Jackson, you and your family are going to love being a part of the Sacred Heart Cathedral School Community.
Thank you for all your support with selling raffle tickets. We are super grateful for this.
We had a really lovely evening last Sunday night to farewell our Year 8 students. It was a fabulous opportunity for whānau to get together and celebrate what our young people have achieved while being at our school. As always, I am super grateful to our staff for all their support on the evening.
Last week, we had a special gathering to thank Hanwen our 2023 Mandarin Language Assistant who will be leaving us at the start of December. Hanwen was presented with a beautiful "pounamu" on behalf of our school community. Hanwen has shared so much with our students about Chinese culture and language. Hanwen we wish you safe travels back to China to see your family and your future is very bright as a teacher.
I have had to have a really frank discussion with all the students this week in assembly about:
- The use of the toilets at school. We have had an ongoing issue with students not using facilities correctly across all areas of the school and misuse of feminine hygiene products in the senior girls' toilets.
- Deliberate kicking of balls and damaging our neighbour's property causing damage.
Teachers will all be following up on both issues in class and I have also asked that we have monitors in each class doing regular checks of toilet facilities so we as a collective work together to always keep our wonderful facilities clean and safe for everyone to use .
Special thanks to our families who have been supporting the delivery of the curriculum with sharing about careers.
Thank you all for your ongoing support.
Have a wonderful week.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Summer Soccer:
Sacred Heart Junior Strikers vs Northland Gems – final score 1-3.
A tough game with several out sick, and playing a team literally twice their height, the team played extremely well. Landon (Room 3) was player of the day for getting back up every time.
Touch Rugby:
Sacred Heart Saints vs St Marks Tahi lost 3-5.
Some great tries and defence by the team, watched on by Mrs Murfitt (thanks for coming). Player of the day was Kialani (Room 5) for her great defence and nearly getting a try and special mention to Henry (Room 5) for his great save on the line.
Wear your own choice of clothing for a gold coin donation on Friday, 24th November:
Our Liturgy Leaders are leading us as a school community to collect a koha of Christmas kai to donate to Wellington City Mission to distribute in our wider community. This is a wonderful and practical way of expressing Jesus’ example of love.
On Friday, 24th of November, we will have a ‘your choice of clothing day’ - gold coins collected on this day will be combined with the school contribution for each class to spend to complete an online shop for Wellington City Mission.
Thank you for your support.
