Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Updates from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Fancy Feet - What a wonderful celebration we had for Fancy Feet Day, the footwear was amazing!

Today, we had many families come and visit our school with the view of joining our school community. It was a super busy morning. What heartened me was our student tour guides who talked so confidently about the learning and experiences that happen at our school with absolute ease. I was very proud of all our students as they were all so warm and welcoming and of course in typical Sacred Heart Cathedral School style focussed on their learning in the classroom.
Last week, our students welcomed some Principals to our school as well as staff from the Maōri Achievement Collaborative. Sue and I shared our journey and the sorts of activities we have been doing with our students (including the movie of narratives from our local area) which was all warmly received.
This week we have been focused on supporting our student leaders. Several attended the Grip conference yesterday at Pipitea Marae and tomorrow we have Kitty for Challenge 2000 who will be working with our Liturgy leaders.
Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any concerns about learning.
From a very proud Principal who is feeling very blessed to be part of this wonderful school, thank you staff, thank you students, and thank you whānau.
Peace and love to you all during this time of Lent.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

NZEI Paid Union Meetings on Wednesday (27th March)
NZEI will be holding paid union meetings later this month. The meetings will focus on discussing and voting on a plan to get the new government to focus on the key, longstanding issues members know make a difference for us and our Tamariki.
Our staff have chosen meetings to cause minimal disruption to learning. Teachers in each syndicate will alternate between two meetings on Wednesday, 27th March so that Tamariki will be able to remain at school with supervision.
The teaching staff are grateful for the support from whānau and the community that enables them to attend these meetings.
Ministry of Education Curriculum Day (NO SCHOOL) on Friday (31st May)
Please be informed that there will be no classes for our students on Friday, 31st May as it is a Ministry of Education Curriculum Day.
Summer Football:
A great well deserved 2-1 win vs Cardinal Crushers! Player of the Day was Kellan (Room 7) for some great tackles and passing special note to Enrico for a solo Messi like goal and Pedro for late appearance in second half and coming on and scoring the winner. And of course the usual solid performances from Uriah, Jackson, Dishan and Charles - what a team!!!
Sacred Heart Junior Strikers vs The Panthers lost 0-8. In the final game of rounds, the seniors stepped up in with a bit of coaching and morale boosting. Mahi tahi in action. Player of the Day was Sophia (Room 5) for International Women's Day as our sole female player this season!

Cricket:
Our students represented our school very proudly as they participated in a cricket tournament.
Thanks to Ann and Anna who coordinated this event for us and to all whānau who supported us on the day. By the end of the tournament, cricket skills were improved especially in the field.
