Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
There is such a buzz around school with the filming of the stories from our local area for the upcoming movie on Wednesday 13 September. Our teachers have really taken themselves outside of their comfort zones and have upskilled themselves. How lucky are we?
Our classrooms are so versatile - Room 6 as a movie set with a green screen
After School arrangements - If you are late to pick up your child, the expectation is that your child waits outside Room 2 until you pick them up.
Please do not ask your child to wait down on the bottom playground as they are not allowed.
Please note there are no teachers on duty after school therefore, they are not being supervised. Staff are marking, planning, in meetings, analyzing data or receiving professional development. We do have After School Care available that is very reasonably priced. There are subsidies available for some whānau. Our staff are super busy and they carry an incredible workload. Dealing with issues that happen out of school hours puts an enormous strain on a busy teacher.
2024:
We are starting to plan for 2024 and are working on our class lists that ensure we have the best combinations of students to ensure learning is maximised.
Mr Grevatt is going to be the new Deputy Principal at St James Catholic School in Palmerston North. This is a wonderful career move for John and we are super grateful that for the past 8 years, John has been able to touch the lives of so many students at our school. What is even more exciting for John and Therese is that they are expecting their second baby in February 2024. A double congratulations! The Grevatts are leaving very big shoes to fill. We have started our recruitment process and will confirm with you all who will be joining the team later on in term 4.
Thank you so much for all the support you give our school.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Parent Work Shop on Building Resilience - Thursday (31st August) at 5pm in the Library
Dr. Chris Bowden will present a workshop for our school community on Building Resilience in our Young People.
This is a practical session for parents to help children bounce back from setbacks.
Chris wears many hats. He is currently a lecturer at Victoria University at the School of Education. He also advises a wide range of groups including Mental Health Foundation, and Skylight Trust, and is part of the Youth Mortality Review team at Capital Coast Health.
We will have childcare available here at school should you wish to attend.
Our session will run from 5pm to 6pm on Thursday, 31st August.
Dr Chris Bowden highlights the importance of raising awareness of the prevalence of trauma and the way it affects adults and children in society. How they respond to trauma has a very significant influence on their health and well-being.
We don’t often make the connection between trauma and the symptoms of trauma. We focus on the outcomes of the trauma, but we don’t address the trauma. Chris will share his wisdom with us and help us to enable students to become more resilient.
