Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Sacred Heart Cathedral School Feast Day on Friday (16th June) at 9.30am in St Mary's Hall
You are all welcome to join us at 9.30am to celebrate our Feast Day at St Mary's Hall. Parking will be available on the school playground.
Sacred Heart was opened in 1852 and was a parish school originally called St Mary’s Day School. In 1900 our school’s was changed from St Marys to Sacred Heart Cathedral School. The history behind our name- According to the Gospel of John (19:33), when Jesus was dying on the cross "one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water." The celebration of the Sacred Heart is associated with the physical wound (and the associated sacrifice), the "mystery" of both blood and water pouring from Christ's chest, and the devotion God asks
from us.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart is a reminder of how much the Lord loves you. Without love, we are empty vessels. We need the love of God to strengthen, renew, and guide us on our journey.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart has been in the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar since 1856,and is celebrated 19 days after Pentecost. As Pentecost is always celebrated on Sunday, the Feast of the Sacred Heart always falls on a Friday.
Koha For Our Trip to Pipitea Marae - A Packet of Biscuits on Friday (23rd June)
Please bring a packet of biscuits on 23rd June (Friday) so we can make a contribution to the running of the Marae.
The Marae has requested this as opposed to money as they use the biscuits for their Monday evening Kapa Haka group.
