Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Last week, our teaching staff participated in paid union meetings. I am super grateful to our staff who covered each other in order to not cause any disruption to our families.

Our new welcome mat was delivered to our school.
Thank you to all whānau who attended our curriculum information sessions yesterday. All of our tamariki are blessed with unique gifts and talents. Our staff draws out these gifts to help your child achieve better. Our staff loves partnering with our whānau to improve life outcomes for all (sorry to those families who had to sit through two sessions of me).
We have had another super week of learning. The Sacred Heart Cathedral School team continues to provide our young people with the tools and skills to fill their kete with a lot of opportunities to navigate an ever-changing world.
Thank you again for your generous donation that we were able to give St Patrick's and Reignier School in Hastings. We are super grateful to Andrew our Trustee (working on the clean up in Hawkes Bay) who delivered vouches and blankets to the St Patrick's and Reignier School Principals to distribute to those in need. Both Principals are very grateful to you all for your generosity.
This Sunday is the Third Sunday of Lent and we are reminded to open our hearts to God.

Children's Eczema Study in Central Wellington and Newtown
Kia ora,
We are running at two pharmacies in the Wellington region; Alexander Pharmacy (191 Willis Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011) and Castles Chemist (139 Riddiford Street, Newtown, Wellington 6021) as well as other community pharmacies around the country. This study is looking for volunteers aged 2-12 years with a doctor’s diagnosis of eczema to test a novel mānuka oil-based topical treatment.
We are still actively recruiting in the region. The study and poster is fully approved by the New Zealand Health and Disability Ethics Committee for the advertisement of the study (Ethics reference: 2022 FULL 12496).
As an overview of the study, volunteers and their parent/guardian travel to a participating pharmacy for two study visits, 6 weeks apart. They will be provided with study treatment to apply twice daily for 6 weeks and will answer a weekly questionnaire about their eczema symptoms. All study medication is provided free of charge and volunteers will be compensated for their time and travel expenses whilst in the study. We have further details about the study available here: https://www.mrinz.ac.nz/currently-recruiting/childrens-eczema
Parent/guardian information sheet which contains more detailed information about the study and a copy of the study poster attached below.

Cleaning Agents:
The power of baking soda as a cleaner:
Baking soda provides extra scrubbing power that makes sponges more effective without becoming too abrasive. Sprinkle it on a damp sponge equipped with a non-scratch scrubbing surface. Use the sponge to scrub out tubs, sinks, and toilets to remove stubborn residue.
Two household cleaners you can make yourself:
- Take the top off of an empty spray bottle, place a small funnel into the opening and pour in 1/2 cup of white vinegar.
- Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda, and wait for the foaming to subside.
- Add in 10 drops each of tea tree and eucalyptus essential oil.
- Fill the rest of the bottle with water.
Scented All-Purpose Cleaner:
What you'll need:
- One part white vinegar
- One part water
- Lemon rind
- Rosemary sprigs
Combine the above ingredients together, pour into a spray bottle, shake, and then let infuse for a week before using. Once done, you can use the homemade all-purpose cleaner to remove hard water stains, clean trash cans, wipe away wall smudges, and much more. Besides a fresh scent, the lemon rind may help boost cleaning power. Caution: Do not use acidic cleaners on granite, as they will etch the stone and proceed cautiously on stainless steel. Some manufacturers recommend against using vinegar on their appliance surfaces.
