Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
This week we are celebrating Samoan Langauge week. To all of our school families with links to Samoa have a wonderful week of celebration. We want our Samoan students here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School to be proud of their culture and have opportunities to speak Samoan.
The theme for Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week 2023 is ‘Mitamita i lau gagana, maua’a lou fa’asinomaga’ which means ‘Be proud of your language and grounded in your identity’.
Have wonderful week and you are most welcome to join us for our Pasifika Liturgy on Friday at 9.30am in St Mary's College Hall. Parking will be available on the school court.
Have a great week and thank you for your support
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Prayer for the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops
E te Atua aroha mā te whakapuaki
i tō mātou whakapono
Loving God in professing the faith
In which we are united as your people
we unite ourselves with the yes
of your mother Mary, the first disciple.
E te Atua, te Puna o ngā mea ora katoa,
te kaihomai o ngā mea pai katoa
O God, Source of all life, giver of all that is good
We, your people of Aotearoa New Zealand
meet in the bonds of your love.
Keep us faithful in our response to your love.
E te Atua aroha, ka karangahia houtia mātou
e koe ki ngā hua o te ora.
Loving God, you call us anew to the abundance of life.
In these years of renewed synodal reflection
we are listening for your voice.
Now we pray for those who will take our voice
to the October Synod dialogue in Rome.
E te Atua, mā roto i te korowai o Maria
te whāea o tāu tamaiti, tō mātou whaea anō hoki
O God, under the patronage of Mary,
the mother of your son, and our mother
May we grow as people of communion, participation and mission.
We pray that those entrusted with leadership of your church will be open,
that together we may enlarge the space of your tent in our land and in our world.
I tēnei wā, ka whakahoungia e mātou tēnei oati tapu
We pray, turning to Mary with new fervour.
In union with her Son Our Lord Jesus Christ
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit God forever and ever.
Amen.
Te Ahi Ora Fire show was such a tremendous success.
Our tamariki were so amazing during the day learning to improve their confidence and creativity and then sharing this with our community.
Growth mindset in action. Our staff loved watching the concentration on the faces and seeing the enjoyment as they moved through the experience. Personal growth in action.
Special thanks to Sue and Kate and our staff who organised this event for our school and community.
Feedback from the tutors included how well behave and calm our students were and the positivity shown towards each other.

We had a wonderful performance group come to school to entertain us all on Monday.
"Strike" has been going into New Zealand schools for twenty-five years. It is high-energy drumming that combines dance, theatre and rhythm all into one.
Our own talented drummers:
Junior Akau Tangi Visit on Wednesday (7th June)

School Marae Visit on Wednesday (28th June)
On Wednesday, 28th June, the whole school is visiting Pipitea Marae. We are very much looking forward to renewing our ties with Ngāti Poneke. The pōwhiri will be at 10am, followed by a day of learning and activities. The Year 6 students will stay on when the rest of the school leaves at 2 pm for their own noho marae. Please read the following form, and indicate if you are available to help.
BASKETBALL:
Sacred Heart Ninjas (Year 3/4) vs Kilbirnie Grizzlies won 32-20.
Player of the day: Otis (Rm 5)
Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 basketballers who had a great win yesterday. There was amazing dribbling happening up and down the court. A great example of a team working well together to achieve a great win. We had some cool support on the sidelines last night and the children really appreciated and loved having them there.

Sacred Heart Raptors (Year 5/6) vs Lyall Bay Pacers lost 18-20.
Sacred Heart Eagles (Year 7/8) vs Kahurangi Ra lost 22-35.
Sacred Heart Falcons (Year 7/8) vs Seatoun Hornets lost 15-25.
NETBALL:
Sacred Heart Emeralds (Year 7/8) vs Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Nga Mokopuna Taiohi lost 12-18. It was such a wet day last Saturday for our senior netballers. Once again, very good great examples of excellent ball skills.

Sacred Heart Cathedral School will once again participate in the world-renowned ICAS competitions this year.

- These tests are challenging and provide extension for more able students.
- The cost for each paper is approximately $20.
- Every student who participates will receive a printed certificate and an online results report.
- Top performers will be eligible for medals.
